Doughnuts Prove A Winner for Birds in National Doughnut Week

Mike Holling of Birds the Confectioner, Derby, confirms that customers have been even more generous this year than ever before.

‘One line in particular, our cream doughnuts has gone particularly well. Across our 50 shops we have sold over 15,000 during the week compared with 11,550 during a normal week. We definitely noticed an increase in footfall in our shops during the week and believe the colour in the window displays and the National Doughnut Week POS material must have attracted customers in to the shops. We have had photographs in the local newspaper which has helped raise not only awareness of the week, and our shops but also our staff who have worked so hard to make the event a success.’

Founder of National Doughnut Week, Christopher Freeman of Dunns Bakery, Crouch End, said, ‘This is really good news and a fantastic effort – this is what National Doughnut Week is all about, raising the profile of participating bakeries and raising money for a worthy charity.’

For those bakers who were not able to participate in National Doughnut Week 2010, Mike Holling urges, ‘ This is a great team building opportunity and the support you get from CSM guides you through the process. When I read about the work The Children’s Trust charity carry out, I always feel it is worth the effort to partake and help raise funding for a very important cause, long may it continue.’
