Decorated Gingerbread Persons Are Out of This World in National Craft Baker Week

Organised by Teresa Grant, Business Development Manager, CSM United Kingdom, in conjunction with the Bakehouse Group, the National Craft Bakers’ Week initiative has been a massive success in the school which used the experience in other parts of the school day and curriculum.

‘This sort of community activity is what National Craft Bakers’ Week is all about,’ said Teresa Grant. ‘The children took part in a quiz that covered things they had learned such as what bakers do, the products they make and how they make them and also had a chance to see for themselves the creative side of baking by decorating a gingerbread person.’

The school worked very hard alongside Teresa to ensure the event was enjoyable as well as educational and have generated local press coverage for their ‘budding bakers’ and their designs. The Watton Bakehouse Shop is now open for anyone in the local community to see the designs created by all 250 children.

‘Seventy children from the school were then able to take part in a gingerbread person decorating afternoon, decorating gingerbread people with Smarties, other decorations and icings, provided by CSM and Bakehouse. The school were extremely pleased with the whole event and are now going to build a 4 week maths project for National Cup Cake Week, covering recipe costing, volumes, sales and profit... so who knows how many young bakers we might have in the future, thanks to this one simple Craft Bakers’ Week initiative.
